CBD was actually discovered by Dr. Roger Adams and his team at the University of Illinois. Although CBD was discovered in the 1940s, true research into the benefits of it didn’t really begin until years later. (That’s the story in a nutshell).

In 1946, Dr. Walter S. Loewe tested CBD on animals and was able to prove that CBD does NOT affect one’s mental state.
